Training at MCJJ
A program for every stage, from your first stripe to competition day.
Every class on this page is taught live, on the mats, by a coaching staff that actually rolls with you — not a franchise curriculum read off a screen. Pick the program that matches where you are today; you can move between them as you grow.
Kids Jiu Jitsu
Discipline, focus, and anti-bullying skills built through structured, age-appropriate technique — not just games.
Fundamentals
The on-ramp for every adult white belt. Positional escapes, guard basics, and the vocabulary you need to survive — and enjoy — rolling.
Advanced & Competition
Live rounds, position-specific drilling, and a competition calendar for students training toward the podium, not just the mats.
No-Gi & Open Mat
Faster, grip-free grappling on Wednesdays, plus open mat time to work on whatever your coach assigned you.
Built for focus, not just fun
Kids classes are split by age and size so a 6-year-old white belt isn't drilling next to a 12-year-old. Every class opens with a short discipline drill — bowing in, listening cues, controlled partner contact — before moving into technique. Rolling is introduced gradually and always supervised one-on-one by a coach.
- Schedule: Mon & Wed, 5:00–5:45 PM (ages 4–7) and 6:00–6:45 PM (ages 8–13)
- What they'll learn: Falling safely, basic escapes, stranger-danger positional awareness, belt-stripe curriculum
- Gear needed: Kids gi (sizing help available at the front desk)
Where every adult starts
Fundamentals is a closed-loop curriculum: over roughly six weeks you'll cycle through the core positions — mount, guard, side control, back control — and the escapes and controls that go with each. No two classes assume you were at the last one, so you can start on any Monday.
Live rolling is optional in your first two weeks and coach-guided after that, so nerves about "getting smashed" on day one aren't a reason to wait.
- Schedule: Mon–Fri, 6:00–7:00 PM
- Class size: Capped at 20 so coaches can correct grips and posture individually
- Path forward: Graduates typically move into Advanced classes within 6–9 months
For students chasing the podium
This is where technique becomes strategy. Classes are built around live positional rounds — starting from a disadvantageous spot and working out — plus game-planning sessions for students with a tournament on the calendar.
Competition team members get corner coaching at every event within driving distance, and a standing invite to Saturday competition-only training.
- Schedule: Tue & Thu, 7:15–8:30 PM · Sat competition training, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
- Requirement: Blue belt or coach approval
- Competition support: Entry-fee assistance and travel coordination for team events
Grip-free grappling, on your own schedule
No-Gi trades the collar-and-sleeve grips of traditional jiu jitsu for a faster, wrestling-influenced pace — closer to what you'll see in MMA. It's a useful cross-training day for gi students and a common entry point for wrestlers and MMA athletes.
Open mat is unstructured time on the mats with a coach present for questions, not instruction — bring what your last class assigned you and work it at your own pace.
- No-Gi schedule: Wed, 7:15–8:15 PM
- Open mat: Sat, 12:00–1:30 PM
- Gear needed: Rash guard and grappling shorts (no gi)
